Unit 2.2: Feedstocks

Background and Guiding Questions

A great variety of organic material can be used as feedstocks for generating biogas. Feedstocks vary in energy production potential. For example, manure has a lower biogas production potential than fats, oils or grease. However, there are scientific, engineering and legal limits to what and how much can be added to a digester.

Guiding Questions

  • What type of feedstocks can be fed to a digester and what is the resulting gas production?
