Energy Assessment Tools

There are two tools available to estimate the energy use of a greenhouse. Both tools allow users to enter information about their greenhouse structure and fuel costs and will provide estimates of energy savings using different energy efficiency options:

Virtual Grower – This is a tool that can be downloaded to your computer. It was developed by the USDA-ARS. This tool can forecast plant production cycles based on temperature profiles and greenhouse energy usage.
Available at www.virtalgrower.net.

USDA Energy Self-assessment Tools – This is a set of online tools that provides information about different energy saving options and allows the user to input information on their greenhouse and calculate the energy savings from all applicable options.
