The eXtension Foundation’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Impact Collaborative (IC) opens applications for willing participants to begin development as an innovation catalyst. Applicants will concentrate on developing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs and practices for both internal (Cooperative Extension) and external innovation. What is the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Impact Collaborative Looking For?

Proposed ideas should answer the following questions:

  •       Is there known success for the proposed idea?
  •       What change is the proposal seeking to create?
  •       How will the proposal be measured?

Teams

The DEI IC is looking for innovative teams (team member limit of 5) that include individuals from eXtension Foundation member institutions and community partners.

Suggested topics involve both economic and non-economic impact areas:

Economic Impact Areas

  1. Articulation agreements: the understanding of articulation agreements between colleges and universities and the economic impact to the community
  2. Government assistance and resources: access and a transition plan once an individual or family is off or transitioning off government assistance
  3. Financial wellbeing/acumen: home buying, payday lending, and banking opportunities (ex: loans) targeted for both adults and student education
  4. Food Deserts/Food Systems: addressing the plight of healthy food options
  5. Physical Fitness: safe parks, recreation, sidewalks, and activity centers
  6. Health and Wellness: addressing chronic diseases i.e. diabetes, heart health, and etc.
  7. Healthcare: access, options, and affordability
  8. Workforce development: jobs…unemployment and underemployed
  9. Transportation deserts: areas without a robust public transit system

Non-Economic Impact Areas

  1. Feeder schools: better understand how universities target, recruit and retain students in both urban and rural secondary school areas
  2. Community College involvement with secondary public schools and the student transition to an educational career or trade
  3. Cyber Deserts: rural areas without access to the internet or technology in general
  4. International collaboration exchange: develop a learning exchange that creates an understanding of various cultures, food systems (agriculture), economy, and education
  5. Immigrant transition to the USA: life skills, acclimation, and community impact
  6. K-12 students with cognitive disabilities and mental health opportunities i.e. available resources
  7. Secondary transition to higher education for students with disabilities
  8. Secondary transition to higher education for traditional first-generation students
  9. Workplace development for employees: establish a program for employee growth
  10. Leadership development within the workplace: identifying factors of a leader and the development phase
  11. Drug epidemic: education, resources, personal relationships, and networks
  12. Community organizing i.e. similar to a homeowners association concept/ best practice
  13. Mental illness/health
